I became intrigued by this idea of what I call “the sandwich effect” when I began noticing how I spent the first few minutes and the last few minutes of my day, and the impact this had on me. In the few minutes when we first wake up we could: jump out of bed and start racing forward in our day, check our phones and emails, engage in thinking about all of the things that need to be done, rush to start our automatic routines, or perhaps begin to anticipate stresses in our day before they even occur. But those same few minutes could be spent in other ways instead, that could help us to show up very differently in our day ahead.
